Summary of the Role

With the supervision of our Finance Manager, the Junior Accountant is expected to participate in the preparation of journal entries and financial reports, analyze actual financial data, learn more about bookkeeping software, and assist with other accounting activities.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Ensuring compliance by adhering to and ensuring organizational policies are followed
  • Support all audits (both external and regulators) by providing supporting documents whenever needed
  • File statutory returns (PAYE, SDL, WTH, city service levy, corporate tax, VAT) timely and correctly
  • Update costing template based on invoices received to ensure correct costs are charged by suppliers
  • Prepare monthly journal entries which will be reviewed by the senior accountant
  • Prepare/Update the fixed register
  • Prepare prepayment schedule, prepayment schedule, update receivable balances, and request supplier statements on monthly basis for reconciliation
  • Maintain sales summary and purchase summary done by the company
  • Raise local sales invoices, Sucafina invoices, and jute bags
  • Recording and reviewing petty cash expenses from upcountry
  • Communicate cash balances every week
  • Prepare payroll entries and pay casuals including remitting all statutory deductions
  • File and Pay statutory deduction on time (NSSF, TUICO & WCF)
  • Prepare bank reconciliation
  • Prepare payments
  • Perform intercompany reconciliation every week
  • Review and posting of monthly journal entries to the general ledger in SUNSYSTEM. Conducting regular ledger closings
  • Assist with EHS issues by advising and training staff

Job Qualifications

Academic Qualifications/Experience

  • BS degree in Accounting or Finance with a maximum of 2 years of experience
  • Additional Certificates are a plus

Attributes/ Skills

  • Excellent knowledge of accounting regulations and procedures, including the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Hands-on experience with accounting software like FreshBooks and QuickBooks
  • Advanced MS Excel skills
  • Experience with general ledger functions
  • Strong attention to detail and good analytical skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Excellent skills in professionalism, and reporting.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills

Languages

  • Excellent knowledge of English 
  • Knowledge of French and/or any other language is a plus
