Job Description

Role Overview
The Printing Technician is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and quality output of large-format and specialty printing equipment used to produce graphic elements, signage, banners, wallpapers, fabric prints, and surface wraps for custom event fabrications. This role requires technical print knowledge, colour accuracy, and close collaboration with design and fabrication teams to ensure print assets integrate flawlessly with physical builds.

Key Responsibilities

  • Large-Format Printing: Operate large-format inkjet printers (UV, solvent, latex) to produce banners, backdrops, window graphics, wallpapers, and fabric prints to client specifications.
  • File Preparation & RIP Software: Prepare print-ready files using RIP software; manage colour profiles, bleed, resolution checks, and press-ready settings.
  • Colour Management: Calibrate printers and perform colour proofing to ensure output accurately matches client-approved artwork (Pantone/CMYK reference).
  • Substrate Selection: Advise on and select appropriate print media (vinyl, fabric, canvas, mesh, backlit film) based on application and environmental requirements.
  • Finishing Operations: Cut, laminate, mount, and prepare printed materials for installation; operate cutting plotters and laminators.
  • Print Quality Control: Inspect all printed outputs for colour accuracy, banding, registration errors, and surface defects before release.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine printer maintenance (head cleaning, calibration, ink system checks) and coordinate servicing for breakdowns.
  • Print Inventory: Manage media rolls, ink consumables, and finishing materials stock; monitor usage and flag replenishment requirements.
  • Installation Support: Assist with or supervise the application of printed wraps, vinyls, and graphic elements onto fabricated structures
     

Job Qualifications

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Minimum 4+ years of experience operating large-format printing equipment in an events, signage, print production, or visual communications environment.
  • Proficiency with major RIP software (Caldera, Onyx, ErgoSoft, or equivalent).
  • Strong colour management skills including ICC profile creation and Pantone matching.
  • Experience with UV, latex, and solvent printing platforms.
  • Knowledge of substrates: vinyl, fabric, mesh, backlit film, canvas, and rigid media.
  • Ability to operate cutting plotters, laminators, and mounting equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail for colour accuracy and print quality inspection.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines with multiple concurrent print jobs.
