Job Description

Role Overview
The Electrical Technician is responsible for the design, installation, testing, and maintenance of all electrical systems integrated into custom event fabrications, props, and structural builds. This role requires a technically competent professional who can work safely with low and high-voltage systems, LED and lighting rigs, control panels, and power distribution units within tight project deadlines in a fast-paced fabrication environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Electrical Installation: Install wiring, conduit, junction boxes, lighting fixtures, LED strips, and power distribution systems within custom event builds and props.
  • System Design: Read and interpret electrical schematics, drawings, and technical specifications to plan and execute installations accurately.
  • Lighting Integration: Install and programme DMX-controlled lighting, LED systems, and decorative electrical elements in collaboration with design and project teams.
  • Testing & Commissioning: Test all electrical installations for safety, functionality, and compliance before handover to the project team.
  • Fault Diagnosis & Repair: Diagnose and resolve electrical faults efficiently under deadline pressure with minimal disruption to project timelines.
  • Power Distribution: Set up and manage temporary power distribution for events, ensuring safe and adequate supply to all installations.
  • Compliance & Safety: Ensure all electrical work complies with IEC standards, local regulations, and event safety protocols; maintain full documentation.
  • On-Site Support: Attend event sites for installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and decommissioning of electrical systems.
  • Inventory Management: Maintain stock of electrical components, cables, and consumables; report shortfalls to project management.
     

Job Qualifications

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience as an Electrical Technician, preferably in events, exhibitions, theatre, or custom fabrication environments.
  • Recognised electrical qualification (City & Guilds, BTEC, or equivalent national certification).
  • Strong working knowledge of low-voltage systems, LED technology, DMX control, and power distribution.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings.
  • Experience with temporary power setups for live events.
  • Knowledge of IEC/local electrical standards and safe working practices.
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills under time pressure.
  • Valid driving licence preferred for on-site travel.
