1. Technology matters

We conducted multiple interviews to more fully understand our blind and low vision job seekers. They emphasized the importance of tech enabled employers. A constant concern for blind job seekers is that employers would not have the tools to accommodate them.

2. Transportation

In-person interviews and positions can be a cause of anxiety for blind and low vision individuals because public transportation plays a large part in his ability to be a productive member of society. Being in an area where the public transportation system is well developed has allowed blind people to overcome many challenges in their mobility to attend job interviews.

3. Insurance

In the United States, blind people receive unemployment and Medicare insurance but once they find a job, their benefits are lost since they have earned income. This stops several blind individuals from applying to jobs as they are not guaranteed benefits with their new employment.
