I found my angel, find yours.

Ali Barakat

« I wished I had not been rescued because it wasn't easy to be here, alone in the south-west of the Netherlands.»

I am Ali Barakat, 37 years old born in Damascus Syria.

I used to live in Damascus city. I was a Graphic Designer, living a normal life.

The war started in Syria. I opened the door of my house, going to my work, and then a bomb, a rocket exploded. I was injured on my head and went to the hospital. After that my life started to fall apart.

I left Syria.

My journey wasn’t easy. It was difficult.

We were on the sea. The boat we were on at the moment was broken and we started to drown.Suddenly I could see a bright light, it was the coast guard. Many times I was close to being dead. I wished I had not been rescued because it wasn’t easy to be here, alone in the south-west of the Netherlands.

I started to look for work. But unfortunately it was so difficult.I’ve been hopeless and you could say I almost gave up. My friend invited me to an event Hiring Success Conference.

It was really encouraging, because I started to receive some calls and I found a job. I started work at Van Lanschot Kempen. Right now I am living in Utrecht. Since that moment my life has changed.

I found my angel and I can say for the others, find yours.
